The top celebrations around the city created for family fun

We’re about to head into the year 2020, and what better way to do that than with the ones you love the most? In the San Francisco Peninsula, there is an array of family-friendly activities happening on New Year’s Eve. This special and exciting holiday isn’t just for adults, and these adorable events are here to prove it.

New Year’s Weekend Family Magic Show

Before the countdown begins, start the New Year’s celebration early with a New Year's Weekend Family Magic Show at Shelton Theater on Saturday, December 28th or Sunday, December 29th. There will be comedy and magic, and volunteers can even participate during parts of the show!

Noon Year’s Eve

Noon Year’s Eve at Hiller Aviation Museum is an annual event put on by the Bay Area Parent Magazine that celebrates the New Year with music, live entertainment, a variety of fun activities, and three giant balloon drops right at noon! There will be face-painting, a puppet show, a magic show, an obstacle course and jump house, and drone flying. Kids can even visit the Imagination Playground, Flight Sim Zone, and Invention Lab during the event. Plan to come hungry? Nob Hill Pizza and hot dogs will be available at the event. Tickets will not be sold at the door, so purchase tickets in advance here.

34th Annual Japanese New Year’s Bell-Ringing

Want to really ring in the New Year? During the day on New Year’s Eve, stop by the 34th Annual Japanese New Year's Bell-Ringing at the Asian Art Museum to take a swing at the 2,100-pound, 16th-century Japanese temple bell.

IlluminOdyssey

End the year with lots of light at the one-of-a-kind IlluminOdyssey exhibit. Families will be able to explore not just one, but four floors of interactive and engaging light installations at CuriOdyssey. This dazzling winter light experience comes to life on the walls, floors, canopies, and ceilings of the museum. There are soft sculptures throughout the exhibit, and visitors are encouraged to touch, grab, play, draw, and even dance their way through the family-friendly excursion.

Winter Park

Winter Park at Civic Center is an icy wonderland full of all sorts of holiday activities that will linger into the last day of the year. There is an outdoor ice skating rink and expanding track that meanders through a forest of beautiful lighted trees.
